The survey (metes and bounds) was ordered on 7/13/11. Once the survey is complete, the petition will begin.People ask where we are? We need donations to pay for the rest of the survey, then we can start the petition and be approx. 4 months from a vote!!!! Please make check to Lee Snead, as attorney and send to PO Box 298 Shirley,11967 ASAP!!!
We placed a hold on the survey, all funds are being held until we raise enough to pay for the entire survey at a cost of $10,300 which also includes $500 already paid to the Suffolk County Cleark for the tax maps. We are currently short the funds required to pay for the rest of the survey and would appreciate any donations towards that. Mastic Beach is well on their way to cleaning up, we need to get this done before we end up with the trash they get rid of!!!
NEXT MEETING:
ON HOLD UNTIL WE SEE MORE DONATIONS AND MORE PEOPLE THAT WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED. PLEASE CONTACT US AT 772-2042 TO HELP or email us at SPVEC11967@aol.com

"Villages are one of the most efficient forms of government as they provide essential services to their residents and, in many instances, to the residents of the towns in which they lie." Peter Baynes, Executive Director, New YorkState Conference of Mayors and Municipal Officials (NYCOM)
8/17/2010 At the Town of Brookhaven town hall meeting, the town stated for the record that there is NO HAMLET OF SMITH POINT! We are already a hamlet (Hamlet of Shirley). Has being a hamlet improved our community? Do we have control over what happens in our community? The answer is NO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Vote YES for a village and take control over what happens in our community!

Here's an interesting link about the history of our area, for those who want to say that we are ruining or changing the history of Smith Point. http://spoonercentral.com/2010/Egbert.html
